Traffic Enhancement Secrets

Many people have affiliate systems on their websites to help pay for the running costs of their website.  These tend to be advertisements and other commercial systems which will pay you a fee in return for promoting the products and services of other sites.  Of course the best way to promote other sites is to have plenty of traffic on your own site.  This article discusses strategies which help with this.

Start with a common theme
The first thing you need is a website with a common theme.  If you’ve got a blog in which you just discuss any old thing from one week to the next then you’re going to struggle to attract a following.  If you’ve got a website covering a particular subject in some depth then you’ve got a chance to do well.

Weigh up the competition
The next thing you need to think about is how to attract people to your site rather than some competitor site – and this needs a bit of careful analysis.  Think about what your competitor site is offering and how you could do it better.  The way most successful companies start up is by doing something that someone else does, but in a better way.  Coming up with an entirely original idea doesn’t ever seem to work, but beating someone else’s good idea definitely does work.  It might not be obvious right away what you could do to beat your competitor.  Let’s face it – if it was obvious then they’ll probably have thought of it too, so you need to be analytical.  Don’t just stare at the site and think about it casually, make some real plans on paper.  Work out what their customer base wants and what they’re providing.  Every company can be beaten in some way, you just need to put in the work.  No one said it’d be easy.

Ways to add value to your site
Competitor shops often only sell things rather than discuss the uses of things.  Add value by including tips, tutorials and ideas.  If you’ve got an online ironmonger store, why not do an article on the types of nail to use?  Sure, these sorts of sites already exist, but you can be pretty sure that if they’re not on shop sites then they’ve got a whole load of Google Ads down the side.  Also you could offer products which aren’t naturally in your domain.  An ironmonger store might not normally sell a wide range of books on the subject, but you can offer links to them online and get affiliate payments for their inclusion.  You can even recommend specific book titles for a particular job and get extra payments from Amazon for it.  These methods bring traffic to your site, and in time you’ll find other people linking to your site too, bringing more traffic and boosting your reputation.

Plan your moves
One thing you must do is plan your website’s future.  Don’t just add a blog to your shop with the intention of writing the odd article here and there when you think of things to write.  Make sure that you have at least 20 good articles to add to your blog right away, otherwise you’ll look like a failure.  You’ve got to make sure your content is always fresh and “of the moment”.  What I mean by that is that you should take into account what current fashions and trends are and make sure your content is bang up to date.  If you’re not able to do it yourself, web companies like ours can even help with pointing you in the direction of people who can add fresh content for you.  There are plenty of people who will write for you for a small fee on any subject you care to mention, so don’t let your own artistic limitations hold back your business.  Embrace the opportunities that are offered by the internet and make it work for you.
